Angelina County Appraisal District Reminds Businesses of April 15 Deadline for Filing Property Tax Renditions
Chief Appraiser reminds businesses to render their property with the Angelina County Appraisal District by April 15. To render is to list the taxable inventory, furniture and fixtures, machinery and equipment and other property a business owned or managed as of Jan. 1. The appraisal district may use the information to set property values.

NEW FOR 2012 SURVIVING SPOUSE OF A 100% OR TOTALLY DISABLED VETERAN’S RESIDENCE HOMESTEAD EXEMPTION
Effective January 1, 2012, a surviving spouse of a 100% disabled or totally disabled veteran may be eligible to receive an exemption from taxation of the total appraised value of the same property to which the disabled veteran’s exemption applied if:
The application for this new residence homestead exemption will be available in January, 2012.

*****New Eligibility Requirements for Homestead Applicants*****
HB 252, effective September 1, 2011 Homestead applicants must submit:
1) Copy of Driver’s license, and
2) Copy of Vehicle registration receipt or, if applicant owns no vehicles, a utility bill. The Chief Appraiser is prohibited from granting the exemption unless the address on the property matches both:
The applicant or applicant’s spouse cannot claim a homestead on any other property in the United States. Under Penal Code, sec 37.10 a person who intentionally claims a homestead the person is not eligible to receive is guilty of a state-jail felony (180 days to two years in a state jail and an optional fine of up to $10,000.)
